    Really good weekend

Monday, November 24, 2008, 08:42 AM MST [General]

I haven't been bowling really well in lge the past few weeks.  Even though i shot a 300 about a month and half ago.  So i really didn't have much confidence going into the city tournament here in south Denver.  We bowled team on Sat. and I shot 704.(198,279,227) I was pressing to much in the first.  When I woke up on Sun morning, I told myself to make a goal for the day.  The goal was to win the all-events title outright.  My wife had to pick me up from work, ( yeah, it really sucks working on Sun, especially at 5 am)  So when I got there I had an open mind.  I put my spare ball on the return and one of my teammates said "you're not going to need that today" and I just laughed at him.  We were bowling on a THS, probably with a little more head oil in the middle due to the amount of people and games that are going to be played.  Started dbls, with an 819.  (278, 276, 265, front 9 then 3-7-9 in the 10th).  So far I got total of 1523, so I was thinking I got a pretty good shot at all-events.  The next set( after swithing lanes, pair to the right) I started with my sencond 300 of the season.  then the second game was only a 238, couple of really good pitches with no carry.  Then in the third game, moved 2-n-1 right, and shot 278, for an 816.  I ended up with 2339 for the 9 game total.  Now this is a handicap tournament, 90% of 230( so evervybody gets pins) I only get 6 pins per game.  So, total with handicap is 2393.  A friend of mine was leading with 2195, and another had 2194.  So I am pretty sure I won the title.  We also cashed in thetop 5 in team and I think my wife and I cashed in dbls.  Needless to say, it was a pretty good weekend and i got my confidence back.  Can't wait until the my next tournament.  U.S. Open qualifier @ Centennial Lanes in Longmont, CO.  So if you are in town, come down and shoe up!!!

    Pretty good week

Monday, November 3, 2008, 11:54 AM MST [General]

Its been awhile, so please bear with me.  For the last 4-5 weeks i have been struggling a little here and there.  Between not throwing right to not making the rigt decisions.  I had bowled a regional here in Co. and I took my self out early nad never gained momentum.  The following week, I shot an Masters tournament, and was kinda in it but lost it.  this type of "bad" bowling (thats what I call it) really made me look at other ways to fix the problems that I have.  So, last Monday my wife and I were practicing at a local center, when( after she beat me by about 100 pins or so) she turned and said, "You told me you were going to try to be nice to the ball'" and your not doing that, quit forcing it.  So I took that little tid-bit if you will, to my Thursday night lge.  Unfortunatly, half the lge was gone due to a TNBA tournament in Las Vegas.  But, I tookher advice and proceeded to shoot 258( 2 7pins, one in the 6th and one in th 9th), 247(Front 8, lazy 10 in the 9th, 4-6-7 in the 10th, really bad ball) then shot my first 300 of the season.  Ending up with my first 800 series of the seaon as well with a 805.  It is always good to have an extra set of eyes when you are practicing, or lge or tournaments.  It also helps when you actually listen and "hear" what other people are telling you.  I still ave about 225, which is second to a 232 by a friend of mine.  Being left-handed, sometimes makes it easier, but you still got to have the rght mental approach or you will go absolutley nowhere in bowling.  I will try to keep up with score and other highlights from my lge every week.
